Winter Break is Near

Congratulations to our fifth graders for making it through the first trimester of 5th grade! There is so much that we have been doing, and so much to look forward to. This last week before vacation has been filled with assignments and assessments to complete before we leave for the winter break. Soon, we will be winding down and enjoying some winter activities before disperse for some relaxation, and quality time with loved ones.

On Friday, our class will be learning about snowflake symmetry and the unique shapes and patterns of snowflakes. Then, we will be creating our own symmetrical snowflakes! Students will be creating these snowflakes that will then be donated to the pediatric unit at a local hospital. Bringing the outdoors in (without the cold!) is sure to bring a smile to many children who are not able to enjoy the snow.

It is important for students to know that although we may be few, when we band together we can do something great. Even something such as sending homemade snowflakes to children can have a great, positive impact in someone's life.

Kindness and "Paying It Forward" is something we discuss a lot in our class. Click here to learn more about Paying it Forward and Random Acts of Kindness.
