Standards Based Grading

With the recent implementation of the Common Core State Standards, Mill Pond School has adopted a Standards Based grading system. So what does this mean?

On report cards, students will receive a score of 1, 2, 2+, 3, 3+ or 4 on standards covered during the trimester.

4 =Advanced – Student work consistently demonstrates advanced and independent understanding of grade level/above-grade level standards.
3+ =Proficient Plus - Student work sometimes demonstrates advanced understanding, or advanced understanding is demonstrated with support. The student performs above the grade level standards, but not all of the time and/or not independently.
3 =Proficient– Student work consistently demonstrates proficient (on-target for the grade) understanding of grade level standards.
2+- Approaching Plus - Student work is close to demonstrating grade level standards, but may not be consistent or independent.
2 =Approaching – Student work demonstrates progress towards understanding of grade level standards.
1 = Beginning – Student work does not meet grade level standards.

Communication
    1. Email (this is the best way to get in touch with me): kewrigac@westboroughk12.org
    2. Phone: 1-508-836-7780 ext. 1008
    3. Send in a note if you have any questions or concerns

  • Birthdays - If you would like to recognize your child’s birthday here at school, please do not send in any food in recognition of the school’s Health Policy. However, you may choose to send in pencils, book marks, or stickers if you’d like. We have 24 students in our class.

  • Book orders - I will be sending home a monthly Scholastic book order. It is an excellent way to buy inexpensive books for your children and a great way to build our classroom library. With each purchase, our class is awarded points to buy classroom books. Our class code is MCMPK.

  • Conferences - Scheduled conferences will take place this fall. Priority is given to those students whom we feel would benefit from an early contact between home and school. If you did not get a notice informing you of a conference request, you can assume that the team of teachers did not feel a conference was necessary at this time, or we already have a meeting scheduled for the near future. However, please feel free to contact us if you would like to request a conference, and we will be happy to honor your request as quickly as possible.

  • Agendas - Students have been given an agenda book to keep track of homework assignments. Agendas will be checked each day to be sure students have the correct homework written. I ask that you please check the agendas each night and initial or sign once you have seen that all assignments are complete. As students demonstrate consistent completion of homework assignments, we can gradually release responsibility to the students.
