Students will be writing a weekly summary to help update parents about what we have been up to in the classroom. Thanks to Diya and Regan for authoring this week's update!
Please enjoy!

Week of 1/8/18-1/12/18

This week in school has been very productive and exciting! In math this week we have been working on adding and subtracting fractions. Step by step lessons have been taught, and us students have learned how to do it efficiently and developed an understanding.

In science, we conducted a few scientific models to show the circulatory system.   Then our living systems unit ended and we started a new unit on mixtures and solutions. We learned the definition of a mixture and created one too.
In social studies we learned about the mystery of the disappearing settlement named Roanoke on Roanoke Island. We learned that no scientist or anyone knows where the people went. They just disappeared. The only clues left was the word “CRO”on a tree and the word “Croatoan” written on a gate. It remains a historical mystery what happened to the settlement. We talked about theories that scientists and even people have. But none of the theories have been proven right. What do you think?

In ELA this week we learned about non-fiction text features, discovering the theme and main idea in a non-fiction text, and Martin Luther King jr. We used a hyperdoc and watched some interesting videos on the history of segregation and how Martin Luther King Jr helped lead peaceful protests, boycotts, and marched to try and earn freedom and justice for the United States. For non-fiction text features we got a packet, read a short paragraph, and tried to determine what text feature was featured in the text. It was definitely an interesting ELA.

This week was different because we had a whole team meeting with all of the classes in our hallway! We sat at tables with people we didn’t know very well. We introduced ourselves, said our names, and what we liked to do. The meeting was mainly focused on changing the world. We got a big piece of paper and the table worked together to come up with ideas and things that we wanted to change in the world. We had also watched a few videos which perked the meeting. The videos were based on segregation and how Martin Luther King Jr. didn't stop till he peacefully put an end to it.

We hope you enjoyed learning about our week ands toon back in next week to hear what we have been doing!
