Weekly Update 1/15 - 19/2018

Week of 1/19/18

This week has been been exciting! We didn’t have school on Monday so we only had a four day week. This week in math we started to learn about subtracting fractions but the fractions were improper or mixed.  At the end of the week we had a little quiz and everyone did great!

This week in ELA we continued to learn about nonfiction text features but mainly focused on problem and solution. We read an article about Apollo 13 and how it was a successful failure. It was quite amazing.

This week In science, we continued our mixtures and solutions. We learned what a solution is and made a model on why the sugar disappears in your hot chocolate and still tastes sweet.  We also learned why there is some sugar that always stays at the bottom even when you mix for a while.

In social studies, we continued to learn about the lost colony named Roanoke. We did a worksheet that would help us understand more about what life was like back then. We wrote it from the colonists perspective of what was going on at the time.

This week in homeroom we learned about learner qualities that 5th grade students should have. We also talked about what 5th grade expectations are, and about taking care of the iPads, and being responsible 5th graders.

This week has been a great week! Make sure to come back next week to see what we all have been doing!
