Report Cards: A Note to Parents

3/25/2014

It is hard to believe that the second trimester is over! Time sure is flying. The second trimester contained a lot of new skills and concepts and I can only imagine that the third trimester is going to be jam packed with a LOT more learning (see below for a list of topics that will be covered).

Trimester 2 report cards will be available Friday 3/28 at 2:30. Remember, report cards are no longer being sent home with students. In order to see your child's report card you need to log-in to iParent. Please contact Cleria Burnell (Mill Pond secretary) at [email protected] if you are unable to access iParent.

During trimester 1, teachers provided a lot of modeling for the students with more guided practice and isolated assessments. Trimester 2 involved more application of skills/concepts learned (especially in ELA) such as quoting from the text, summarizing, identifying the main idea, and narrative writing. The level of effort needed to reach grade-level expectations increased, as it will increase yet again for our final trimester. I encourage you to speak with your children about the importance of giving their best effort 100% of the time. Grades are not only based on tests but also classwork, which is why effort is key!

Coming up in Trimester 3:
ELA
- opinion writing
- informational writing
- point of view

Math
- fractions
- measurement and data
- graphing

Social Studies
- 13 colonies
- American constitutional government
- American Revolution
